“Our march is peaceful and no need to mobilise anti-riots police,” says Human Rights activist

Participants in Saturday’s march will maintain it although authorities did not authorise them, said chief of the Algerian League of Human Rights Defence.

    “The last retouches of the peaceful march agenda are over and I expect that many people will took to the street,” Mustapha Bouchachi told Echorouk.

    “The march will start on Saturday at 11 a.m. from 1er Mai square until La Place des Martyres passing by Press Freedom square and the central post office,” he added.

    “I was surprised by the huge security reinforcement meant to face demonstrators. More than 40,000 policemen are mobilised.”

    “Although the march is totally peaceful and it aims at ending façade democracy and moving to real and efficient democracy.”

    “Slogan will be raised to call for political, individual and collective, union freedoms, the necessity of meeting legitimate claims including housing and job right, stopping bothering democratic activists, promoting human rights, stopping harassing independent press and separating between powers and justice independence.”

    Lawyer Bouchachi called on all the citizens including students, doctors, lawyers, jobless people to join the initiative. “It is a liberation day from restrictions which have been imposed on people for a long time.” 

    “Saturday is a day to express our ideas and opinions. Authorities should meet our claims anyway.”
